History

Succulents have developed special structures to store water in their body, generally as an effort to survive during dry periods. Evolution and geographic distribution have resulted in a variety of succulents which are each adapted to their specific environment. This has led to a vast collection of unique types.

Today, some people treasure their succulents like real collector’s items. In fact, in the past many plants have been taken from their natural surroundings in order to populate collections with large succulents which are as old as 100 years. To stop this, certain plants have been protected, i.e. the so-called CITES-plants (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species).
