Diseases

Stem and root rot:
Usually caused by the combination of too low temperatures and excessive moisture.

Burn marks:
Occur if the plants are suddenly moved from a dimly lit location to a sunny spot (this should be done gradually).

Insects

Plant louse:
Affect the soft parts of the plant and can be treated with special insecticides.

Woolly aphids:
A frequently occurring problem that can be seen on the growth areas and between the parts of the plant. They are white, woolly fibres that are clearly visible and must be treated without delay and systematically with an insecticide (product to be mixed with water for plant).

Root louse:
These sucking insects adhere to the roots and require the same attention as for the woolly aphid.

Red spider mite:
These are minute insects which produce a web on diseased plants and which must be treated with a special acaricide.

Slugs:
Are found mainly on plants (young plants, tender parts) that are kept on the patio or in the garden in the summer. The slug trail indicates their presence and the problem should be treated by spreading slug control granules around the plants in question.
