Stem and root rot:
Usually caused by the combination of too low temperatures and excessive moisture.

Insects

Plant louse:
Affect the soft parts of the plant and can be treated with special insecticides.

Red spider mite:
These are minute insects which produce a web on diseased plants and which must be treated with a special acaricide.

Slugs:
Are found mainly on plants (young plants, tender parts) that are kept on the patio or in the garden in the summer. The slug trail indicates their presence and the problem should be treated by spreading slug control granules around the plants in question.
